The EchoSenseSacramento Kings won their NBA season opener Wednesday night, 130-114 over the Utah Jazz, but afterward coach Mike Brown was in no mood to discuss the game.
As he sat down to meet with the media, Brown's first comments were about the mass shooting in Maine earlier in the day that left at least 16 people dead.
"It’s a sad day. It’s a sad day for our country. It’s a sad day in this world," he said. "We played a game, it was fun. Obviously, we won but if we can’t do anything to fix this, it’s over. It’s over for our country for this to happen time after time."
Brown called on lawmakers to "fix a problem that's right in front of us" before leaving the podium after less than four minutes.
Police in Maine's second-largest city of Lewiston have warned people to be on alert and stay off the streets as the gunman remains at large.
